Nov 10, 2009 (Southington, CT) -- Hartford Business Journal awards Carol Barno, CFO of Central Connecticut Senior Health Services, with the 2009 CFO of the Year Award in the category of large not for profit companies. Hartford Business Journal celebrates seven Greater Hartford CFOs as finalists in its 2009 CFO of the Year awards.
Carol Barno is the consummate professional who consistently gives her all in every aspect of her work within Central Connecticut Senior Health Services’ senior care continuum. Carol is an outstanding CFO and personifies the philosophy of caring for seniors that our system has become known for throughout the state of |
Connecticut. A number of years ago, Carol shared her passion for cooking by coordinating a book of recipes contributed by seniors, their loved ones and staff which was then used for fundraising purposes. Shortly thereafter, she coordinated a dog show at Southington Care Center with staff, resident and family member participants. The event included many activities with several dogs winning awards. Recently, Carol shared her passion for the Tour de France bicycle race by presenting information to seniors within our system regarding how the race is run, its history and other interesting facts. Carol has served as President of the Association of Long-Term Care Financial Managers and is currently the education program chair for that association. She is an active member of the Connecticut Association of Not-for-Profit Facilities for the Aged and has served on the legislative review committee.
Carol has been with the senior care continuum since 1995. During this period of time, Central Connecticut Senior Health Services has grown from one 130-bed skilled nursing facility to a fully integrated senior care system which includes Southington Care Center, The Orchards at Southington, Mulberry Gardens of Southington, Jerome Home, Arbor Rose and Connecticut Center for Healthy Aging.
Carol’s work behind the scenes allowed the organization to raise capital for an 8300 square foot rehabilitation pavilion through a refinance of its existing bonds, while also raising capital for the building and opening of The Orchards at Southington in 1998; the purchase of Mulberry Gardens in 2003, the refinance and bond issue for Arbor Rose in 2007 and the opening of two Connecticut Center for Healthy Aging locations. The success of Central Connecticut Senior Health Services and its on-going financial stability for all of the entities that have evolved over the past fifteen years has been possible, in large part, due to Carol’s hard work, commitment to excellence and her unwavering support when undertaking new ventures.
